Easy Homemade Matcha Latte

Matcha lattes at cafes typically come with foam made using a milk frother, but for a quick and easy homemade version, a foam-free matcha latte works great. Give it a try!

Creamy matcha latte in a glass cup

Ingredients

  • 5g / 2 teaspoonsMatcha
  • 1½ tablespoonsSugar
  • 2 tablespoonsHot water
  • 300-360ml / 10-12 fl ozMilk (or soy milk)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a cup (about 500ml / 17 fl oz capacity), combine 5g / 2 teaspoons of matcha and 1½ tablespoons of sugar. Mix thoroughly with a spoon.

  2. 2

Add 2 tablespoons of hot water and stir well with a spoon until fully dissolved.

  3. 3

Heat 300-350ml of milk in a separate microwave-safe container (or in a small pot on the stove), then pour it into the matcha mixture and stir. Microwave briefly to warm further if desired, and it's ready!

Tips

  • Soy milk works just as well as regular milk. When microwaving 300ml of soy milk, heat for about 2½ minutes at 500W.
  • Adjust the sugar amount to your taste.
  • For a more café-style finish, use a milk frother to foam slightly warmed milk and add it on top of your matcha latte.
  • When serving guests or preparing more carefully, strain the mixture through a tea strainer when pouring into cups (step 3) to remove any undissolved particles.
